That season, the 2012/13 campaign, ended up being his first and last in London as the now-retired 36-year-old American went back to his homeland, only to get himself one more trip to England on loan and then finishing his career at Seattle Sounders FC not so long ago.
But even though he didn’t stay long at Spurs, many of the fans still remember him quite well, and just recently, the club’s official account posted a throwback video of his goal against Manchester United back in the day. This prompted a reaction from the fans and they seem to be quite divided on the matter.
Mourinho’s produced some incredible footballing stars – how much do you know about them?
Some of them were gushing over the player, even calling him a legend and saying how they miss him at the club, imagining him in a forward line alongside Harry Kane.
But even though a portion of the fans seem to have Dempsey in their memories, calling him a legend at Spurs could still be just a bit far-fetched. After all, the now 36-year-old only managed to score 12 goals and assist a further seven in a total of 43 games played for the club.
For that very reason, many other fans were not really that impressed with his signing or the goal Spurs were showcasing on social media, saying that it’s not really an impressive feat since he practically had an open net.
One fan, however, stated that this was due to Andre Villas-Boas, their manager at that time, failing to utilise his strengths.
In the 43 games Transfermarkt have in their database for his Spurs stint, Dempsey played a total of 20 games as a second-striker but was also deployed on a number of other positions as well.
