da betsul: Roy Hodgson postponed the announcement of his England squad earlier this week so he could assess potential players for his EURO 2016 squad this weekend.
da premier bet: The last set of Premier League fixtures represents a final chance for some players to stake their claim and prove to Hodgson that they should be on the plane to France. The postponement itself gives clear indication that the England boss still has some decisions to make, and with the likes of Danny Welbeck now ruled out through injury, there are still places up for grabs.
There are a number of English players that have had stellar campaigns, but have yet to get indication they should hold off on booking their summer holidays and so as the new date for the squad announcement on Monday approaches we at FootballFanCast have had a run through of who would could be in with a shout, here are the FIVE with the best chance…
Jermain Defoe
When Defoe moved away from the Premier League to ply his trade in Major League Soccer many thought that that would be it for his international career and even his career at the top level domestically.
This season though, he’s shown he’s still got it. A major part of the reason Sunderland have stayed up this season is because of Defoe’s goals and the damage he can still cause up front. Wherever he goes he hits the net and for a man who everyone thought had had his time, there’s clearly still a lot to give from him. He scores goals and you can’t argue with that.
Mark Noble
Noble has been one of the best English midfielders this season, marshalling the centre of the pitch for West Ham, who have had a storming season.
Only Roy Hodgson knows why he overlooks the Londoner, because if you compare him to the likes of Jordan Henderson, who is set to go, you’d say Noble has been the better player this year. Noble also has a knack of scoring from penalties and given England’s shoot-out record, he would be a key asset.
Marc Albrighton
Marc Albrighton has been overlooked this year which is understandable given some of Leicester’s performers.
Nevertheless the former Aston Villa midfielder has had a strong season, been a key part of the Foxes’ title winning campaign and has the ability to combine pace and crossing in a way that few wingers in the England squad can at the moment. He’d be a good option to mix up Hodgson’s tactics too as a more orthodox wide-man.

Aaron Cresswell
Cresswell has been an integral player for West Ham at left back and you’d be hard pushed to find a more consistent Englishman in his position this season.
Leighton Baines has suffered with injury and has failed to hit the heights of a couple of seasons ago whilst Luke Shaw was looking promising before breaking his leg. Cresswell does all the things a strong left back should do and deserves a chance for the national team.
[ad_pod id=’euro-2016′ align=’center’]
Charlie Daniels
Another full-back that has impressed this year, Daniels has been part of a Bournemouth defence that has done wonders at times in their first season in the Premier League.
He might not be a first choice for Hodgson, but he’s definitely performed well enough for consideration for a place in the squad. He’s shown consistency, has a good attacking threat but vitally, he is a full back that can defend, and this seems to be a worryingly declining trend in modern football.
