Goal.com say that none of Liverpool’s famed front three will be leaving the club in the summer.
What’s the story?
There has been speculation over the past few months in regards to Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. The former was said to be a target for Real Madrid, whilst the latter was believed to be on the radar of Bayern Munich.
No clues: Can you name the season these iconic Liverpool images belong to?
However, this report appears to quash claims that any of Mane, Firmino or Mohamed Salah will depart. In regards to the Brazil international, the Anfield outfit were even said to be bemused following the links to the Bundesliga champions.
Salah should leave
In the short-term, that is fantastic for Jurgen Klopp and co. The trio have been in stunning form this campaign, having scored 44 goals and provided 32 assists in all competitions to date, and they have contributed massively to the Reds’ success in the Premier League, which has seen them race to a 22-point lead at the top of the table.
However, in the long run, keeping on to all three could end up being an issue. At some point, rejuvenation is needed, and there will need to be new blood brought in. Liverpool have been linked with both Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho in recent weeks and months – these are the kind of players who can lead the line for years to come.
Perhaps Salah should be the one to move on. Whilst he has been imperious for Liverpool – he has 89 goals in 139 matches for the European champions – he will be 28 at the start of the next season. With a market value of £135m according to Transfermarkt, he is unlikely to ever be worth more than he is right now.
His numbers have dwindled since he first arrived as well – after scoring 44 goals and providing 16 assists in his first campaign at the club, he managed just 27 and 13 in his second, whilst he has 20 and nine respectively this term.
He is still a quality footballer, and real talent will be needed to replace him when he does eventually depart. However, that does not come cheap, and with each passing campaign he is at the club, his value will decrease. Some may not want to hear it, but it may be time to consider moving the Egypt international on.
