da 888casino： The Championship outfit have been the frontrunners for some time, and club owner Tony Xia took a dig at Midlands rivals Birmingham City in a teasing tweet this morning.
The signing was confirmed on the club’s official Twitter page a few hours later, and it has been revealed that Terry has signed a one-year contract.
There were rumours that the 36-year-old would be promised a coaching role when he hangs up his boots, but there was no mention of that in the club’s statement.
This is the first time in 22 years that Terry will not be wearing the blue colour of Chelsea after he decided to call time on his career at Stamford Bridge at the end of last season.
There were rumours of interest from overseas clubs, but the centre-back has opted to stay in England and drop down into the second tier of English football.
On the club’s website, Terry said:
“I am delighted to join Aston Villa. It’s a club I have admired from afar for many years. There are fantastic facilities at Bodymoor Heath, Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums in the country and there’s a good group of players here, with an experienced and successful manager in Steve Bruce. I can’t wait to get started now and look to help the squad achieve something special this season.”
As expected, Villa fans were full of excitement when the news they had been waiting for was finally announced.
