da apostebet: Everton consider a late move for West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian and blocked an exit for James McCarthy on Deadline Day, according to reports.
What’s the word?
da betsul: Everton had a quiet Deadline Day in the end but Ronald Koeman’s side did consider two big moves, concerning one incoming player and one experienced midfielder leaving Goodison Park, but decided against moves in the end.
The Liverpool Echo says the Toffees discussed a late swoop for West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian, as they seek to find a new goalkeeper, but eventually decided to wait until the end of the season to change their options between the sticks.
On top of this, Ronald Koeman also blocked an exit for James McCarthy, with Newcastle United circling and keen on a £15m deal, but The Daily Mirror states the Dutch boss rejected a move as he sees McCarthy as a key-part of his side.
Why the change in heart?
Everton’s eventual decision not to push through either of these deals could be significant for Ronald Koeman in the second-half of the season but it shouldn’t be ground-breaking in terms of what the Toffees can achieve- and that probably played into Koeman’s mind.
A push for Adrian wasn’t necessary this window as Everton have Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles on the books and the club can afford to wait until the summer, when 34-year-old Stekelenburg could leave Goodison Park.
By waiting, they leave the door open for the likes of Manchester City’s Joe Hart, currently on-loan at Torino, and Chelsea’s Asmir Begovic, who saw the Blues block a late switch to Bournemouth as Antonio Conte couldn’t land a replacement.
As for their midfield, opportunities for James McCarthy may look limited following the arrival of Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United but the Irishman is still a useful asset- especially after Tom Cleverley left for Watford.
McCarthy does have to compete with Schneiderlin, Gareth Barry, Ross Barkley, Idrissa Gueye and young talent at Goodison Park for regular opportunities but the door is still open for a push back into the side for the 26-year-old.
