da blaze casino: As the Euros draw to a pulsating close, some of England’s biggest clubs will be starting their preparations for a hefty pre-season schedule. They will be looking to get to match-fitness ahead of the season-openers on 13th August where another tough Premier League campaign awaits.
da realsbet: And this is no different for Spurs, who will be looking to knuckle down after last seasons rather embarrassing capitulation which saw them concede not only the title but second place in the Premier League to bitter rivals Arsenal, too. It was all set up: to earn the bragging rights in London and waltz into the Champions League but they collapsed at the last moment to slip into third, much to the annoyance of their supporters but to the joy of the Gunners faithful.
But going into next season, what can Spurs do in order to mount a reputable title challenge? Like I said before, a good pre-season is massive for Pochettino’s side. They have glamour friendlies lined-up against Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan later this summer, which is a considerably lower amount of games than some of their rivals. There are no home fixtures and no ties against local teams with Pochettino deciding to play only the games on their tour of Australia instead.
Could this be either a blessing in disguise that prevents injuries and fatigue before the season even begins or a move that doesn’t see enough first team action taking place before the openers? We’ll soon see.
Transfers are also a big talking point amongst Spurs fans of late, too. They’ve brought in former Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama who is every bit the midfield enforcer he’s known as, and a solid signing going into the season.
But striking options are something that are on the lips of most supporters with some worried star striker Harry Kane needs support in order to lift the weight off his shoulders and avoid burnout. This will be even more apparent after his lacklustre showing in France, and another striker would only add healthy competition to a squad capable of challenging again next time around.
Their first pre-season game on 26th July so they still have a bit of time to bring someone in who can go out to Australia with the rest of the first team but that will surely be a priority in the weeks to come.
Pochettino, who has done a great job in the Spurs hotseat so far, also needs to instil some self-belief in his squad too. Some of the mature heads who did such a great job for the majority of last season dropped off towards the end of the campaign, allowing Leicester City to eventually run away with the title. He needs to find his leaders, his big dressing room players that can command both on and off the pitch at the most important points in the season.
But what Spurs need most of all is a strong campaign. However they do it and whoever they bring in they showed in large spells last year they are capable of competing with the country’s best. They’ve shown themselves to be highly marketable and a good footballing outfit and they will need to continue in good stead in order to carry on their steady progression.
