Balotelli claimed in November that he was still the "strongest" Italian striker in a bid to force a recall to the national team, and he has now been linked with a potential return to Serie A. Udinese, Salernitana and Empoli have all been credited with an interest in the 33-year-old by , whose contract in Turkey expires this summer.

Balotelli has seen his minutes limited by knee surgery this season, as he has made just five league appearances. The former Manchester City and Inter striker has scored three goals in that time and the report claims that Balotelli would like to return to Serie A in order to put himself in contention for Italy's Euro 2024 squad.
