da aposte e ganhe: Newcastle United are reported to have asked the Football Association to withdraw striker Andy Carroll from the England team to face France due to concerns over a groin injury.
da bet nacional: The 21-year-old trained well with the England squad yesterday, before head coach Fabio Capello confirmed that Carroll would make his international bow as a starter at Wembley.
However, the Magpies are still concerned that Carroll has not recovered fully from a niggle sustained in the goalless draw with Fulham last weekend and have contacted the FA to 'express their concern'.
Carroll had earlier spoken of his desire to prove his worth on the international stage, telling The Sun:"I'm still learning as a striker, you don't stop doing that. People talk about what I can do in the air, but there is more to my game than just headers.
"I can bring my team-mates into the game as well and I like to have a shot from inside or outside the box.
"I want to show the England manager and fans what I can do. I'm confident in my ability to score at international level.
"There were questions about whether I could make the step up from the Championship to the Premier League, but I've done that and now I've got the chance to do it for England."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
