da bet7k: Martin O’Neill has expressed his disappointment at Sunderland’s exit from the League Cup last night.
da aviator aposta: The Black Cats boss believes the team lost the opportunity to win by not scoring.
He said: “We’re obviously disappointed. We didn’t do well enough. We were unable to score a goal to give ourselves a chance in the game. We had an opportunity to get through to the quarter-finals of the competition and we failed.”
O’Neill feels that this was Sunderland’s first test this season and that they have to start picking themselves up before the Black Cats’ next game this Saturday.
He said: “We have to pick ourselves, which is easy to say, but we didn’t play well enough and we didn’t give our supporters enough to get enthused about. Middlesbrough came with a totally free spirit and enjoyed the game. If they won, great, if not it wouldn’t have been make or break for their season. However, for us this was a big night and we’ve failed the test. I think you learn more about people in adversity. We need to get a grip of the situation and prepare ourselves for Saturday, it’s a different competition and it’s a big game for us.”O’Neill was also disappointed at Sunderland not creating enough during the game saying: “it was really disappointing. We started off brightly in the game but Middlesbrough forced their way into the game and in truth we didn’t create enough. Eventually we didn’t have enough confidence but not at the start of the game and not on the back of a strong draw on Saturday against Stoke.”
Middlesbrough progressed to the League Cup quarter-finals with a 0-1 win over Sunderland.
