da luck: According to reports in The Guardian on December 25, Brighton and Hove Albion have made Celtic striker Moussa Dembele a key target during the January transfer window as they look to avoid being sucked into a relegation battle this season.
da betcris: The Seagulls currently lie in 12th position in the Premier League table – four points above the bottom three – but they have only scored 15 goals in their 20 top flight matches this term.
If that record was to continue in 2018, then they would surely find themselves in a spot of bother and potentially be looking at returning to the Championship after just a year.
The Guardian says that the south coast outfit and the Scottish Premiership leaders are also several million pounds apart in their valuation of the 21-year-old centre-forward, with earlier reports by Sky Sports on Christmas Day suggesting that an £18m fee had been agreed by the two clubs.
Meanwhile, Tottenham bounced back from a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City by beating Burnley 3-0 and Southampton 5-2, but they still lie in fifth position and are 21 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men at the summit.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino will be looking at potential January additions to strengthen his squad, and bringing Dembele to Spurs could prove to be a shrewd move.
Here are three reasons Tottenham should join Brighton in the race to sign the former Fulham man…
Kane competition
While Kane continues to go from strength to strength with his crazy goalscoring statistics, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino still doesn’t seem to have found a reliable back-up to the England international.
Summer addition Fernando Llorente will be 33 years of age in February and has only scored one goal in 19 appearances for Spurs – although the majority of those came from the substitutes’ bench – and the Argentine manager may be looking for someone else to make an impact as soon as next month.
Considering how he has performed during his Celtic career, Dembele could be the competition and cover that the north London outfit need for Kane.
His qualities
While a hamstring injury kept Dembele out of action at the start of the season, he has bounced back by scoring eight goals and providing a further three assists in 20 appearances in all competitions this term, although he hasn’t quite lived up to the impact he made in his debut campaign at Celtic Park.
The 21-year-old netted 22 goals in 49 outings during that period, and his ability to score any type of goal certainly make him something of a versatile centre-forward.
According to WhoScored.com, the Frenchman’s main strengths are his finishing, dribbling and ability to make key passes, which also show that he isn’t a selfish striker.
Potential
While his statistics for Celtic have been relatively impressive, Dembele isn’t the finished article yet and he has lots of room and time for improvement.
The 21-year-old looks destined to go and become a full France international though – as well as potentially making a big impact in the Premier League if he chooses to stay in Britain if he leaves Celtic – and Pochettino could be the perfect manager to hone in on the striker’s ability.
Dembele would certainly appear to be more of an ideal fit for Tottenham’s style of play than Llorente if Kane wasn’t fit or rested, and even though the Daily Mail report he could cost £25m, that isn’t a fee that should put the north London outfit off.
